MechE does blend with ID to the extent that one needs to understand how to build what they design, or the constraints of what they're designing. i'm currently studying ID and it's been 2 month since i've starter studying ID and i wanna change to architectue. In our area, engineers are holding out OK, but a lot of architects are having a hard time of it. Mechanical engineers are responsible for developing, constructing, and improving machines: manufacturing equipment, engines, hydraulic systems, machine tools, steam turbines, air-conditional equipment, and many others. -M.Arch: bigger scale projects, can sign drawings and blueprints, design oriented. To a great extent, ID is not as easy to outsource piecemeal as, say, software. I graduated as a B.Eng in Mechanical Engineering, and I regret not choosing ID, Arch, or even Digital Animation for my bachelor's degree. Most engineering subjects are hard to master, and most people require many hours of study and practice to master solving those problems. They all tend to have the same foundational courses, but they quickly splinter off into their own specializations. But is it not rewarding as everyone seems to tell me? Engineering is a pre-professional major; it's meant to help you prepare for a job in engineering. After my alevels I started an apprenticeship in ME. Foundation Year at SOAS - Social Sciences, Arts and Humanities. Even a small structural engineering firm can diversify, working on a lot of different types of buildings.
